In 1923 Ferrers was designed by Gill and built by Maxwell as his family home – after he died the property passed to his son, John . Susan Falkner records that ‘the property glowed with the colour of polished unvarnished furniture that George had made himself’. Soon after John’s death in 1979, his widow decided that the house was impractical for modern living and it was sold, demolished and replaced by an up-market residential house.
